PEORIA, Ill -- Three Peoria Police officers and a k-9 officer were injured, Monday night, when two squad cars collided.

The officers were responding to a call for backup at the time of the accident. One squad car was eastbound on Illinois street, the other northbound on Indiana Avenue.

The three officers were taken to OSF Saint Francis Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries.

"The officers do try to drive safely and unfortunately this is the outcome here today,” said Lt. Scott Cook. “There is any number of time that officers are driving in emergency mode where they do make it safely to their destination."

The police officer who made the initial call for back up was able to apprehend his suspect.
