PEORIA, Ill. -- Since 9-11, and now the more recent Boston Marathon bombing, whenever there are large crowds gathering there will be more security.
Police want to remind folks that many types of fireworks are illegal to light off in Illinois.
They will also be patrolling throughout Peoria to make sure people are kept safe and not just on the roads.
"We have to review security for each event and we do go over it. Between security in the Taft and down toward Elm Street there will be approximately 60 officers working the riverfront fireworks and the Taft extra security," said Lt. Steve Roegee of the Peoria Police Department.
Police also remind motorists that the Bob Michel bridge will be closed from 9:15 p.m. to 10:45 p.m. on the fourth for the fireworks show that starts at 9:30 p.m..
They also say be patient when leaving the show as officers will be directing traffic to keeping it flowing.
