PEORIA, Ill. – The city of Peoria has been awarded a $750,000 grant to hire additional police officers.
Peoria is one of five Illinois communities to receive the Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) grant from the Department of Justice.
The grant will be used to recruit or rehire six officers.
“Even as tight budgets have forced many law enforcement agencies to reduce the number of officers on duty, the safety of our communities must be our top priority. This funding will help meet that goal by putting more cops on the beat,” said Senator Dick Durbin, (D) Illinois. “Congresswoman Bustos and I have met with local law enforcement officers in both Rockford and Peoria, and we look forward to continuing to work with these communities on ways to stay safe.”
