PEORIA, Ill -- A 17-year-old Peoria woman was wounded by gunfire on Tuesday night, police say.
Officers were dispatched to the intersection of E. Virgina and N. Missouri on reports of a shooting victim. The victim suffered a bullet wound to her lower abdomen.
Details are sparse at this time, but a friend of the victim's said that a man standing between 6'0 and 6'3 was seen walking away from the scene southbound on Missouri. Only one shot was fired at the victim.
The witness said that she was with the victim at a mutual friend's house when the victim went outside to make a phone call. The victim was shot while outside, but the witness did not see the actual shooting take place.
Police are still investigating the incident.
