PEORIA, Ill. -- A very well-known and respected Peorian has passed away.

Dana Davis, 56, passed away Tuesday night in Memphis, Tennessee.

A Manual High School and Bradley graduate, Davis started the Mitchell JJ Anderson basketball camp in Peoria in 1997.

The camp was a free, week long event helping underprivileged youth in the area.

Peoria Mayor Jim Ardis says Davis was one of a kind.

"He had a heart as big as Texas and never stopped giving back to this community. He set a true example of unselfish giving of oneself and he will be dearly missed," said Ardis. "His focus on helping young kids to get an education and be responsible citizens was a blessing to our community. He was an excellent role model for the youngsters he worked so hard to help."

The cause of death is unknown, but according to the Memphis Police Department, no foul play is suspected.
