March 6, 2014 Updated Mar 6, 2014 at 11:40 PM CDT

CENTRAL ILLINOIS -- Earlier this week FEMA denied federal aid to the Illinois counties hit by the November tornadoes. Now a heart of Illinois resident is asking the President to look at the issue.

On Thursday, a Washington resident started a petition on the White House website.

The petition is asking President Obama and Congress to look at FEMA's funding system and figure out ways to improve it.

The petition needs 100,000 signatures by April 5th in order to reach the President's desk.

You can sign the petition here.
