BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- The three pit pull dogs that attacked and killed a four-year-old girl in her Bloomington home have been put to sleep.

A spokeswoman for the the McLean County Health Department, Kera Bressette, says the dogs were euthanized humanely on Wednesday.

The girl's family relinquished ownership to Animal Control, which determined the dogs could not be put back in the public.

Four-year-old Kara Hartrich was attacked by the three dogs in her home two weeks ago.

She died on January 17 of injuries to her head, neck and arms.
