PEORIA, Ill. -- Some tense moments at the Peoria Airport Tuesday morning.

Officials say a plane with 29 people on board had to burn fuel before it landed. The plane circled the General Wayne A Downing Airport for about 30 minutes before it was allowed to land.

The director of the airport says that none of the passengers were injured.

"Basically it was a departure from Peoria. It was the Delta flight to Detroit. When they took off, they could not retract their flaps," said Director Gene Olson. "What that does is the airplane can't accelerate to its normal speed so it wouldn't have the capability to make it all the way to Detroit."

As part of a routine investigation, the Federal Aviation Administration is looking into the incident.
