BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- The Bloomington Police Department will be under a new police chief starting January 18.
Police Chief Randy McKinley is leaving Central Illinois for another chief position in Saint Charles, Missouri.
McKinley has been with the Bloomington Police Department for nearly 29 years. He worked as a sergeant, lieutenant, and assistant chief before being appointed chief in 2009.
McKinley said leaving is bittersweet.
"I was picked up by Saint Charles, and I am excited about that. On the flip side, I'm leaving a lot of friends, I'm leaving a place that has been home for 28 years. I've had mixed emotions about it," said McKinley.
Friday is McKinley's final day in Bloomington. Assistant Police Chief Clay Wheeler will be taking over as interim Police Chief until a replacement is found.
