PEORIA, Ill. -- Despite recent murders and violence, Peoria Police said the city’s streets are safer now compare to three years ago.
That is the message Peoria Police Chief Steve Settingsgaard gave members of the Kiwanis Club during a luncheon on Thursday.
Settingsgaard updated the group on the progress of the city's “Don't Shoot” anti-crime initiative.
"That's really why ‘Don't Shoot’ exists,” Settingsgaard said. “It's all about gangs and gang violence. The gang violence we still see, to me it says we are focusing on the right thing. We've made violent gangs our number one priority.”
Settingsgaard said this month authorities will launch two new initiatives of the “Don't Shoot” program.
