PEORIA, Ill. -- There were a lot of parties going on during Super Bowl Sunday.
During and after the game, Illinois State Police stepped up patrols looking for impaired drivers.
State Trooper Dustin Pierce said last year's weather kept many people home to watch the big game, but with this year's mild winter, authorities believed more people would hit the road to watch the game elsewhere.
"We strongly recommend that if your hosting a party, to provide some non-alcoholic beverages and other choices for people. Monitor your guests and if you see someone is having too much to drink, then get their keys, get them a ride home, or have them stay the night. Whatever it takes so that person isn't getting behind the wheel and driving," said Illinois State Trooper Dustin Pierce.
A study from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration shows 40 percent of fatal automobile crashes on Super Bowl Sunday 2010 resulted from drunk driving.
