PEORIA, Ill -- The Peoria County Sheriff's Office announced Monday the results of the Fourth of July Sustained Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) Campaign that took place from June 22 - July 4.

Patrol units made two DUI arrests.  Also issued were eight speeding citations, one safety belt citation, one child restraint citation, and 26 other citations.  Units also issued one texting while driving citation.

A STEP grant made it possible for police to increase patrols during the holiday.  STEP grants are focused on lowering the incidence of motor vehicle crashes and their resulting injuries and fatalities.

According to the Peoria County Sheriff Office, the next enhanced enforcement effort will be the Labor Day campaign from August 17 - September 3.
