LEXINGTON, Ill. -- Illinois State Police are investigating the death of a Lexington toddler.

According to the McLean County Coroner, EMS responded to a home on Hilltop in Lexington shortly after 9:30 a.m. Wednesday after receiving a call of an unresponsive child being pulled from a bathtub.

The child was transported to Advocate BroMenn Hospital in Normal where he was pronounced dead. He has been identified as 18-month-old James R. Wilburn. The coroner said James lived with his mother and an adult male in Lexington.

Early information suggests that James’ mother placed him in the tub and found him face down in the water approximately 20 minutes later.

Autopsy results indicate James died of drowning. Additional tests have been ordered.

The Illinois State Police and McLean County Sheriff’s Department are investigating the death.
