Police investigating car fire as an arson

PEORIA, Ill -- Police responded to 2900 W. Marquette Avenue Sunday morning to find a vehicle that was apparently set on fire.

Authorities arrived on the scene at approximately 4:00 a.m. to find heavy smoke coming from the vehicle.  An empty gas can was set directly next to the burning car.

Police spoke to a witness, who said she heard a loud explosion and saw a subject wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt, jeans and white tennis shoes fleeing from the scene.  The witness could not tell from her vantage point of the subject was male or female.

The fire investigator was called to the scene and this incident is being treated as an arson.
