SPRINGFIELD, Ill -- Secretary of State Jesse White announced Monday that the Secretary of State Police issued 60 citations during a statewide crackdown on parking illegally in disability parking spaces.

The enforcement kicked off on November 23 and will continue through the end of December.

According to a press release from White, citations were issued to 29 people for improper use of a parking space or parking in a space without a disability placard of license plate and 28 were cited with misuse of a disability placard.

A total of 1,925 placards were checked and 29 placards were confiscated by Secretary of State Police.

"I'm pleased with the results of the disability parking enforcement efforts, White said. "As I've said before, our mission is not to give tickets, but to ensure the disability parking spaces are available to those who need them."

Police were enforcing parking lots in malls all over the state, including Peoria.
