EAST PEORIA, Ill. -- Five East Peoria families impacted by the November tornadoes are getting help from the police department.
On Friday, officers presented a package of goodies to several residents as part of the Adopt-a-Family program.
The presentation took place at the new Fondulac District Library.
The packages include monetary gifts, meal and savings certificates for local stores and other items.
Recipients said they are humbled by the generosity.
"I'm overwhelmed and thankful,” said East Peoria resident Patti Moore. “It's hard for me to talk about it. There's been several people in the community that's helped us, co-workers, the police, the fire department, neighbors that you didn't even know that you had. I'm proud to live in this community."
The Adopt-a-Family program is now in its fifth year.
If you want to donate, you can bring donations to the East Peoria Police Department on Washington Street.
