PEORIA, Ill -- The campaign trail is heating up for the seventeenth congressional district, as Republican Representative Bobby Schilling's wife hits the ground running.
Christie Schilling met with "The Women for Bobby Coalition" at Hyvee Supermarket in Peoria Friday afternoon.
Mrs. Schilling talked of her husband's efforts, including work with the agricultural community, where there's more than 150,000 woman-run farms.
After democrats charged republicans with a war against women at the national convention, Christie Shilling and the Women for Bobby Coalition are looking to challenge that perspective.
"I am here to inform people of all the good things Bobby is doing for our district. And with all issues being women's issues. I want everyone to know what Bobby is doing to provide jobs for the district," said Christie Schilling.
"We republican women don't believe there is a war on women at all from our republican representatives, so we need to get the word out. We have a big territory that is Bobby's district. And it's important that people know what he really stands for, said Women For Bobby Volunteer Carol Hornickle.
Christie Schilling says her husband is up in the polls by about 13 points over Democratic challenger Cheri Bustos of Rock Island.
