PONTIAC, Ill -- A prescription drug disposal program designed by Pontiac Township High School students in 2008 is going international once again.
The "P2D2 project" was designed to educate the public about the environmental damage caused when consumers discard prescription drugs into the water supply. Last year, the project was recognized in Sweden as part of the Volvo Adventure Award Competition.
Now, the information gleaned from that project is being implemented by a group in Brazil to help clean up waterways there.
The project coordinator in Brazil says drug pollution is a serious problem, and that he hopes the Pontiac students' research will help.
