PEORIA, Ill. -- The Power of Play has netted a family a prime parking spot at the Peoria Zoo.
On Thursday, Rosaline and Dr. Brad Smith were announced as the winners of the most recent Power of Play contest.
By donating $25, residents were able to place their name in a drawing for a reserved parking spot at the Peoria Zoo.
Officials say contests like these help get the community involved with improving Glen Oak Park.
"Our goal is to reach out to the everyday folks who live here so they can be a part of this," said Emily Cahill, assistant to the director at Peoria Park District. "They can take ownership of it because they are the ones who ultimately are going to come and spend the day here at the park."
The Power of Play campaign is just over half of its $8 million goal.
The funds will help to expand the Peoria Zoo and bring the Peoria Playhouse Children's Museum to Glen Oak park.
