EAST PEORIA, Ill. -- Problem after problem has prevented kids in the heart of Illinois from learning how to fish at the Hooked on Fishing Park in East Peoria.

The park's opening date was originally pushed back a month to June 1st due to flood damages from the Illinois River.

Now, due to internal pond flooding, they've seen even more delays.

Volunteers say they are in the final stages of recovering nearly $20,000 in damages, which includes restocking the pond with nearly 600 different fish.

Park officials say they are the largest fishing education organization in Illinois, and they hope to brings hundreds of more visitors once the park opens next month.

"It is disheartening. We are going to lose 2 months of great weather. The whole month of June we had at least two groups signed up every single day, and we've had to turn them down until we can re-open the park," Hooked on Fishing Park Director Bob Quinn said.

The Hooked on Fishing Park's official re-opening is set for July 1, and their first big event, The Kid's Fishing Derby, is set for July 6.
