Quinn, Amtrak officials announce start of high speed rail

CHICAGO -- State officials are thankful as Illinois takes a historic step toward establishing a high-speed rail system.

On Thursday, Governor Pat Quinn, Illinois Transportation Secretary Ann Schneider, and Amtrak Officials announced the start of high-speed rail service along the Chicago to St. Louis corridor.

Between Dwight and Pontiac, Amtrak Lincoln Service Trains will travel at a maximum speed of 110 miles per hour.

Officials expect to have nearly 75 percent of the Chicago to St. Louis corridor traveling at high speed rates by 2015.
