Governor Pat Quinn says he stands by President Obama's gun plan, and hopes legislators in both Springfield and Washington take action on the proposals soon.
On Wednesday, the President unveiled his proposals, which would require Criminal background checks on all gun sales, ban "military style" assault weapons, and limit ammunition magazines to ten rounds.
Last year, Quinn rewrote state legislation to ban those same guns but lawmakers rejected it.
"I think it's important that we help lead the nation. The state's often times can, by good example, show the entire Congress what is necessary to be done for America," said Quinn.
Governor Quinn has been pushing for a ban on military-style, semi-automatic weapons since he took office in 2009.
