Raccoon to blame for Normal power outage

NORMAL, Ill. – More than 3,400 customers were without power Wednesday morning after a raccoon damaged an Ameren Illinois substation in Normal.

Ameren Illinois spokesperson Stacey Shangraw said the incident happened just before 5 a.m. and left 3,420 customers without power.

Shangraw said crews were able to restore power to 3,000 of the affected by 8:20 a.m. Power was restored to the remaining customers by 10:20 a.m.
