PEORIA, Ill.-- The Susan G. Komen race for the cure, will bring thousands of people to the Peoria area in May.

Race organizers say that although the day is about celebration and supporting breast cancer survivors, security is very important.

Over the 28 years they've had the race here in Peoria a lot has changed in terms of security.

Executive Director Linda Maricle says the organization works very closely with public safety officials in the area to ensure safety at the event.

Maricle said, "There is a written plan in place for every event that we have. Who has first call, where do you go to, how does the event team meet up, how do we deal with this. We are very cognoscente of the fact that we need to be planful."

The Susan G. Komen race for the cure takes place on Saturday May 11th.
