EAST PEORIA, Ill.-- As the American Red Cross keeps busy helping those affected by the flood, the organization honored a handful of unsung heroes on Saturday night.
It was part of the Heartland Heroes ceremony.
Among those honored was Peoria Notre Dame High School senior Charlie Cain, who rescued a fellow swim team member from drowning.
Another award was given to a group of people who helped save a golfer when he went into cardiac arrest.
Natt Lapsley—who does I.T. here at the station, was one of those "life-saving heroes."
Red cross officials say the group of honorees are very humble.
Erin Miller of the Red Cross said, No hero ever thinks that they're a hero. They just do what comes natural and they are definitely someone who brings out the best in humanity. They do amazing things. Whether it's a one time thing... Being there to save a life or it's something they just do everyday."
Each hero was nominated by members of the community.
