BLOOMINGTON Ill -- District 87 will see multiple teachers laid off next month following the approval of a $3 million deficit reduction plan Wednesday night.

Board members said they hope these cuts will put them back on track in the coming years.

$1.5 million will be cut in the 2013-2014 school year alone.

By the second year, officials said they should have a better handle on the level of state assistance and changes in the pension plan.

Superintendent Dr. Barry Reilly added that the board is in the process of going through teacher evaluations, certifications, and seniority to determine who will be cut in March.

"In small circumstances it is easy to figure out who the individuals are," said Reilly. "In others it is much more challenging until you get through all of these things. We are very close to that. March 1st is the deadline for evaluations to be in. Once that timeline hits we will have a better indication on who those people will be."

The school board will meet again on March 13th to officially put the reductions in place.
