PEORIA, Ill. -- The wait is over for Belwood Nursing Home residents looking to move into their new home at Heddington Oaks.
The new nursing home was finished earlier this year, but residents were not allowed to move-in because of inadequate lighting outside the building.
Now that the problem is fixed, 172 former Belwood residents moved into their new rooms on Wednesday.
Officials said moving that many people required a bit of coordination.
"We have help from AMT, Advanced Medical Transport, we have help from CountyLink buses, and we have the regular Belwood transportation bringing over to Heddington Oak,” said Jennifer Fulton, Director of Strategic Communications for Peoria County. “We also want to make sure they have all of their personal items in the move. We asked that family members help with the move today, and we've seeing that many, if not all, of the residents who have family in the area are receiving that help from the family members."
The new Heddington Oaks nursing home features 214 beds, dinning rooms in each wing and a physical therapy room.
