PEORIA, Ill. -- Central Illinois residents could soon see a portion of Interstate named after former U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood.
State Representative Jehan Gordon-Booth has introduced a resolution to the Illinois House Transportation Committee that would name portions of I-74 reconstructed under the Upgrade 74 road improvement project "Ray LaHood Highway." LaHood was instrumental in getting federal money for the multi-million dollar project.
"When you see the issues of Washington, D.C. and the inability to be effective an get things done for people I think that Ray LaHood is a throwback of an era that we need to be looking to so that we can look at statesmen who knew how to work across the aisle to get things done," Gordon-Booth said.
"We worked hard for the people here and we tried to work with people on really fixing up, not only the road system but other infrastructure and also trying to bring people together to solve community problems," Lahood said.
Representative Gordon-Booth said she believes the resolution will be approved by the House before the end of the fall veto session.
