EUREKA, Ill. – A retired Eureka College professor is donating $3 million dollars to the college.
The donation by Retired Eureka College history professor emeritus Richard Sanders is the largest single gift in Eureka College history.
The $3 million will be used to build an addition to Vennum-Binkley Hall, which houses science labs, computer labs and classrooms. The 15,500-square-foot addition will be named Sanders Hall.
The total cost of the addition will be approximately $5 million. The college plans to break ground in May 2014, with a completion date by May 2015.
In 2011, Sanders gave an undisclosed amount to build the Ivy Hall residence hall atrium lobby, which is named for him. He also gave funds to create the Richard W. Sanders Endowed Scholarship to be awarded annually to a student pursuing a degree in history or political science. Sanders retired in 2010 after more than 25 years at the college.
