PEORIA, Ill. -- Families can celebrate the new year together with a fireworks display along the riverfront.
Organizers said despite the early snowfall, they are expecting to light up the sky as usual.
Fireworks will be launched from the Illinois River bank in front of Kelleher's so those on both sides of the river can share the view.
Organizers said they are expecting over 2,000 people on the riverfront for the event.
"They'll be looking right across the river. They will have a beautiful view also. We want to include both Tazewell and Peoria Counties. Let's make this a big thing for Peoria and start bringing people in to our new hotels that we got here being built," said Event Organizer Pat Sullivan.
Organizers raised about $6,000 this year for the display with the help of Budweiser and the Warehouse District.
Central State's Fireworks will put on the 20 minute display beginning at 9 p.m. Monday night.
