Sandberg to remain on first district ballot

PEORIA, Ill. -- A Peoria Circuit Court Judge has put Gary Sandberg on the primary ballot in the first district.

In doing so, Judge Michael Brandt reversed the decision of the Peoria Board of Election commissioners, who removed the at-large councilman from the first district race.

Judge Brandt ruled that Sandberg only needed to live in Peoria for a year to be eligible as a candidate.

There will now be a three-way race in Peoria's first district between Sandberg, Denise Moore and Randall Emert.

Absentee voting starts Thursday for the February 26 primary.
