ILLINOIS -- In light of the heat and high electric bills, scammers are at it once again.
Ameren is reporting a scam that occurred in mid-May is making the rounds again.
The scam claims President Obama is applying payments of up to $1,500 on customer's utility bills, which is false.
The scammer then asks the customer to make a payment today using a specific bank routing number -- and then asks for the number on the back of their social security card.
Ameren says anyone who gets a call from someone claiming to be an Ameren representative, who wants payment or personal information over the phone, should hang up immediately.
They should then call local police and Ameren Illinois at 800- 755- 5000.
