WASHINGTON, Ill -- Saint Patrick Catholic School in Washington was closed Wednesday after an apparent overnight burglary.

Washington Police Chief Jim Kuchenbecker says a school staff member noticed a broken window at the main office inside the building Wednesday morning.

Authorities say it does not appear that anyone broke into the building from the outside.

No electronics like computers or video equipment were stolen. However, some teachers did report items had been moved around in their classrooms and items taken from their desks.

"And there were plenty of those items out and about, so it would appear at this point the only thing that has been taken that they know of is currency," said Kuchenbecker. "You know, money, coins, things like that that were in teachers' drawers."

At this time it is not known how much money was taken.

Principal Doreen Shipman says school will most likely be closed Thursday, as the crime is still being investigated.
