PEORIA, Ill -- Children in the East Bluff neighborhood got their hands on free bikes and backpacks filled with supplies, and it's all thanks to the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Peoria and the United way.

The Boys and Girls Club held its second annual Back to School Bash with much success.

Kids played games and vendors supplied information on healthy living.

This year, organizers decided to hold the bash a week after school started, so students could get the school supplies they need for class.

"…sometimes people get their free book bags and then people who actually really needed the free book bags didn't get the free book bags,” says Program Director Jacobie Proctor. “So we want to make sure our kids and our members had enough supplies to last them through the year. They can always come to the Boys and Girls Club and get free school supplies if ever in need."

Local vendors supplied the book bags and school materials.

The Peoria County Sheriffs Office donated the bicycles.
