CENTRAL ILLINOIS -- The price at the pump has no doubt increased across central Illinois.

Thursday night it ranges anywhere from $3.79 to almost $4.25 a gallon with the higher amounts being found in Morton and the lower in Canton.

Triple A Chicago spokeswoman Beth Mosher says the price increase is due to a temporary shutdown at two midwestern refineries.

She advises motorists to take matters into their own hands by cutting down on their fuel usage by:
- consolidating trips
- buying regular unleaded instead of premium fuel
- car pooling or using public transportation
and most importantly slow down.

"For every 5 miles an hour you go over 55mph, you are adding 24cents to the gallon. So that is a great way, just slow down out there," Mosher.

Mosher also recommends downloading the triple A mobile app for Iphone and Android users.

She says the app has tips on how to conserve gas, as well as a locator for the best prices.
