PEORIA, Ill. -- Dropping names can open doors but removing names can lead to road closures.

Saturday, six Downtown Peoria streets surrounding the former Associated Bank Building will be closed due to removal of the large signs atop of the building.

On Friday, workers began uninstalling those signs. On Saturday between 7:30 am and noon, crews on the top of the building will be assisting helicopters as they lower the signage to the ground.

According to the building manager the public is welcome to watch.

"It should be a fun event if you are into that kind of thing. That is watching the helicopter remove the letters and setting them down on flatbeds on Hamilton street. kind of an unusual event in Peoria," said Susie Armstrong, the Associated Bank Property Manager.

The Associated Bank Building is located at 125 Northeast Jefferson Avenue. Motorists in the area are advised to use an alternate route.
