PEORIA, Ill. -- Workers are installing an important piece of the new downtown Marriott Pere Marquette Hotel.

Fulton Street between Monroe and Madison is closed as workers install the skywalk which will connect the hotel complex to the Peoria Civic Center.

Hotel Developer Gary Matthews calls it a milestone for the $92 million project.

"You can be in either the Pere Marquette or the Courtyard or the deck or the access to Main Street and never be outside," said Matthews.

Crews are also building an elevated stair tower inside the Civic Center entrance plus an elevator for visitors to use when coming from the hotel complex.

Matthews said the outside of the skywalk will be covered with bricks to match the exterior of the Civic Center.

Fulton Street is expected to reopen in about three weeks.
