SOUTH PEKIN, Ill. -- The South Pekin community came together on Saturday to raise money for a walkway they hope to build at the South Pekin Park.

The Town Twister is an organization dedicated to finding ways to better the South Pekin community. The Town Twisters and another organization, Subversion Promotions, worked together to create a fundraiser, which they called Chaos in the Corn.

Chaos in the Corn took place at the Super Sports Bar and Grill in South Pekin. Apple bobbing, face painting and live music were just some of the activities that the event had to offer.

Organizers asked visitors to buy wristbands for $5 a person, not including children under the age of 5. All proceeds went to the community fund towards building a walkway at the South Pekin Park.

It is a $20,000 to $30,000 project. The group hoped to raise at least $5,000 by the end of Saturday's event.

The community hopes that the walkway will bring life back to the town.

"My kids and I go to the park all the time. It gives us something to do. We're a small community," said Jessica Cantrell, Subversion Promotions Community Relations Chair. "There's not a lot for us to do without having to drive all the way to town and so this gives us a chance to stay in our community."
