CENTRAL ILLINOIS -- Officials at South Side Bank are investigating a text message scam that is affecting customers and non-customers.
Since noon Monday, South Side Bank has received numerous reports of suspicious text messages.
Victims said the text messages stated that their debit card had expired and gave them a phone number to call to receive a new one. That number led to a digital voice that asked for a customer's card number, expiration date, and pin number.
South Side Bank is reminding customers they will never ask for sensitive information over the phone. They urge anyone who has given out any information to call the bank immediately.
The matter is currently being investigated by law enforcement.
