SPRINGFIELD, Ill. -- A Thursday night house fire in Springfield is the deadliest in the city since 1987, officials say.
Firefighters responded to a home fully engulfed in flames on North 9th Street shortly before midnight.
Officials say that they found four men ages 16 to 60, all believe to be related dead inside of the residence.
One woman was able to escape onto the roof of the home and was rescued by fire crews. She is currently in a Springfield hospital.
Firefighters say that the do not know how the fire was started or whether the cause was suspicious.
This is the deadliest house fire in the Springfield area since a 1987 fire that killed five people.
