PEORIA, Ill. -- A business heavyweight tells local leaders that education is the key to the nation's future.
State Farm CEO Ed Rust was the featured speaker at the Peoria Area Chamber of Commerce Public Affairs series.
In addition to being the head of State Farm, Rust is the Chairman of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and serves on the board of Caterpillar, Inc.
He says corporations must work with the government to make sure America's children have the best education and says State Farm has found success with company programs that aim to educate, train, and retrain workers.
"We did a lot of partnering with be it junior colleges or universities around the country, and making sure that we can find the talent or we partner with others who have the talent," said Rust. "Some of that, you may find in programming work or other types of analytic skill-sets we need."
Ed Rust serves on the board of America's Promise Alliance and is the former chairman of the Business-Higher Education Forum and Business Roundtable's Education Initiative.
