BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- The largest U.S. provider of car insurance has announced it will add 3,000 people to its workforce.

State Farm said those jobs are available across the nation, as well as Canada.  Approximately 300 of those will be based in Bloomington.  An additional 900 agent jobs will also be added throughout the year.

Vice President of Human Resources Mary Schmidt said the increase in the company's workforce is due in part to evolving customer needs.

The company also said due to the economic downturn the past few years, it did not adequately replace positions that were left because of retirement or other opportunities. Now, State Farm is looking to fill those jobs.

State Farm is hiring in the following departments:

* Claims
* Customer Service
* IT/Systems
* Underwriting
