PEORIA COUNTY, Ill. – Illinois State Police are trying to figure out what caused a semi-tractor trailer to tip over and crash on Interstate 74 near Brimfield Wednesday night.

The crash happened just before 10 p.m. on westbound I-74. The semi was traveling eastbound when it left the roadway, went through the center median and crossed both westbound lanes of traffic.

The truck rolled onto the driver’s side trapping the driver, Levan Giorgadza, 41, of New York. He was rescued by the Brimfield Fire and Rescue Department and taken to OSF St. Francis with non-life threatening injuries.

The truck was hauling steel drums at the time of the crash.

Giorgadza was cited for improper lane usage, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and failure to speak or read English-Driver.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
