PEORIA, Ill. -- Three Bradley University public relations students have teamed up with the Center for Prevention of Abuse to spread domestic violence awareness through their 'Find Your Light' Campaign.
Saturday morning, they asked shoppers at Hey Lola's Boutique to write a special message for those dealing with abuse.
Pictures of people holding the messages were also taken and will be shared as an inspiration for those dealing with abuse.
Students said they felt an even stronger desire to bring attention to the issues, given the reports of abuse from last week's suspected murder victim, Laongdao Phangthong, from her estranged husband.
"It definitely brought an added level of pressure to the campaign because we knew people would be sensitive to it because of the recent events in Peoria, said co-organizer of the project," Lauren Campbell. "That has definitely added to us wanting to bring awareness."
"I hope that they raise more awareness," said owner of Hey Lola, Jessica Benassi. "I hope more people get involved and that people understand that it is a very serious issue that deserves as much attention as we can give it."
So far, the group has taken more than 300 pledge photos, but their goal is 500.
To help them reach their goal, you can send them your picture with a written message to their facebook page called "Find Your Light Campaign".
