PEORIA, Ill. -- Plenty of shoppers right here in Central Illinois were fighting the crowds Saturday as they finish up, or just begin their holiday shopping.
Saturday was known to retailers as Super Saturday, and the second biggest shopping day of the year.
Shoppers flooded Northwoods Mall for Super Saturday trying to find those last minute gifts.
"Today I am shopping for my husband some ties and at justice for my daughter," said shopper Holly Tate Jones. Waiting til the last minute means you have to deal with the crowds.
"This is the only day I could get it done and that's why. Otherwise I would choose not to be out in this craziness," Jones added.
Store workers were very prepared for the shoppers. JC Penney store leader Richard Hudson says they increase inventory as early as October.
"Christmas is the time when we make most of our money so it's very important to the industry." "the ten days before Christmas are always as busy as all get out," Hudson said.
On days like these retailers expect a lot of their employees.
"I know I have to stay late til 1 a.m.," said Quanisha Thomas, JC Penney Store Associate. But Hudson says this is what holiday shopping is all about.
"It's a lot of fun when it goes by really quick if your working and it's a lot of fun for the customers too you know it's what you think about when you think about Christmas shopping."
