PEORIA, Ill. -- There are 6,000 women on the waiting list in Illinois to get mammograms and the upcoming Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure helps to fund those.
On Thursday, the Memorial Affiliate in Peoria announced where the money raised from last years race is going to help those in the 36 counties it serves.
$560,000 in grants was distributed to different county health departments and medical foundations to help women without health insurance get mammograms. That includes $86,700 to the Methodist Medical Center Foundation in Peoria, $65,000 to the Tazewell County Health Department in Tremont and $60,000 to the Heartland Community Health Clinic in Peoria.
