TROUTDALE, Ore. -- A shooting at a suburban Portland, Oregon, high school has left one student and the gunman dead Tuesday morning, authorities said.

Gunfire was reported at Reynolds High School in Troutdale shortly after 8 a.m. PT.

Portland police said the situation was stabilized an hour after the initial call.

The Multnomah County Sheriff's Office didn't immediately say if there were victims or the extent of any injuries.

The facility was placed on lockdown while SWAT teams moved from room to room to take students out safely, according to NBC affiliate KGW.

Students have final exams Tuesday and Wednesday, the last days of the school year, and some had yet to arrive to school for the morning.

Reynolds High is one of the largest high schools in Oregon, with more than 2,800 students.
