PEORIA, Ill. -- Bond has been set at $40,000 for a man who allegedly tried to abduct a teenage girl on Friday.

Reggie Hankins, 65, was arrested Saturday morning in Bloomington and charged with attempted child abduction, disorderly conduct and violating the sex offender act.

Peoria police said Hankins, who is a registered sex offender, attempted to abduct a 15-year-old girl near Marquette and Griswold by trying to lure her into a vehicle driven by someone else.

The incident happened around noon on Friday.

The teenager refused to approach the vehicle and reported the incident to a relative who picked her up. A description of the suspect, vehicle and license plate lead police to Hankins who was brought back to the Peoria Police Department for questioning.
