Teen death ruled as homicide; father faces prison

PEORIA, Ill -- A coroner's jury has ruled the death of an 18-year-old Peoria teen as a homicide.

This is according to the news radio 1470.

18-year-old Darnell Hunter Junior died in late February at a hospital after being found unresponsive by his father in his home. An autopsy showed Hunter Junior died of malnutrition.

Hunter's father, Darnell Hunter Senior, is charged in his son's death with involuntary manslaughter and criminal neglect of a disabled person.

If convicted, Hunter Senior faces up to 13 years in prison.
