EAST PEORIA, Ill. -- With the 50th anniversary of the assassination of President John Kennedy tomorrow, we went into our archives to bring back pictures from October 24th, 1960.

That's the day then candidate John Kennedy visited Peoria.

It was a more innocent time.

Kennedy rode in an open convertible down Main Street in Peoria, waving to the crowds.

His protection was a motorcycle officer riding beside him.

He drove to a Courthouse campaign rally and then came to WEEK-TV, to appear live on that night's 6 pm newscast, and wading into a crowd afterward, again with no apparent protection.
